Padma Parvati Lakshmi is a Chennai-based Indian woman who was born on September 1, 1970. Her parents divorced at the age two. Her mother emigrated to the United States to escape the stigma of divorce in India. Lakshmi lived in Chennai with her maternal grandparents for two years before moving to the United States. Her parents divorced and she was blessed with a younger halfbrother and half-sister from her father. Lakshmi is a woman who has a last name with the Hindu goddess of prosperity and wealth, grew up first in New York and then in Los Angeles with her mother and stepfather.
